1/28/12 - We just finished the 4 day county meet, a test of endurance for the coaches, county booster club members, and parent volunteers. For the athletes as well, but not quite so bad for them. The culmination for this is the Swim Finals on Sat. Girls Diving is finished in one evening on Wed. and the Boys Diving was held on Sat. morning. They get to do theirs in one day, but with many, many more swimmers than divers, we break that up into girls prelims and boys prelims on Thur. and Fri. respectively, with Finals Sat. evening. It got very LOUD and very EXCITING in that Natatorium on Sat. We had some great victories and some very frustrating near misses. There is nothing like chasing a state time all season, making it but having it snatched away on a technicality, then missing it again in the last event of the season by two hundredths of a second. The test of a real “ATHLETE” is if they can shake off that disappointment and frustration and get back in the game, and to a man and woman your fine Mountain View Swim and Dive Bears do just that! We would like to thank our generous competitors for their athleticism and sportsmanship, and our Gwinnett County Swim and Dive Booster Club for a well-run, exciting County Meet.

We are proud of our 12th place finish in field of 18 in one of the most competitive swimming communities in the country. We of course hope that as our team and program grows we will soon move into Top 10.

We had some more very exciting moments this weekend. Below is a list of athletes who made state times this weekend. Please join with me in congratulating them on this huge accomplishment.

All below are new state qualifiers.

50 Free                              Daniel McCullough

100 Back                            Brooke Brogdon

Girls 400 Free Relay        Megan Mullins, Brooke Brogdon, Sandrine Lefebvre, Ronnie Huhn

State Meet will be at the amazing facilities of  Georgia Tech (Yep, went to school there too) on Friday Feb. 9th for 5A prelims in Swimming in the evening, diving is that morning. Then on Sat. for the finals in swimming in the evening, diving will have finished for 5A Friday morning. It’s a ways down there, but we swim in what was the 1996 Olympic Pool and it is a great facility for Diving and Swimming, where you can see the top athletes from out state in an exciting venue and events.

Go Mountain View Swim and Dive Bears!!!!

Top ‘O the Food Chain, Baby!!!!

We are sooooo proud of each and every one of you!!!

1/13/12 - Your Mountain View Swim and Dive Bears were hosts to Shiloh, Meadowcreek, and Lanier this past Friday evening at the Collins Hill Aquatic Center. I am pleased to say we gave all three competitors a solid thumping, winning the meet by 440 to our nearest competitor, Shiloh’s, 251. Meadowcreek and Shiloh are similarly sized teams to us, Lanier is still growing. We would like to thank all our competitors for their sportsmanlike conduct and attitudes, and for a great meet. We also want to thank all our many, many parent volunteers for running an excellent meet. We also honored our three graduating seniors, Megan Mullins, Jake Payne, and Summer Spataro, who I, and the whole team will miss greatly and wish much success to.

Here is the shrinking list, due to so many previous qualifications, of our swimmers and divers who reached new county or state times. If you know or teach these students please give them a thumbs up for their amazing efforts and indeed any other swim/dive team member because all contribute to our wins.

New County Qualifiers this meet:

Boys 200 Free              Phillip Jenny, Chris Tokaji

Boys 100 Free              Zach Higashi

Boys 500 Free              Robby Compton

Our last regular season meet is this coming Sat. January 21st, at Collins Hill Aquatic Center. We swim against South, Central and Lanier again. The meet should start at 7:30am, early yes, but what a way to start your day. Come on out and support your Swim and Dive Bears during their last meet, we promise one exciting race after another, just ask AP/AD Wayne Smith who was on the edge of his seat this past Friday.

Go Swim and Dive Bears!!!!

1/7/12 - Your Mountain View Swim and Dive Bears had a great meet this past Saturday against the Collins Hill Eagles and the Alpharetta Raiders. Unfortunately our guest from Fulton County won the whole meet with our host, Collins Hill in a very close second and our Bears a distant 3rd. Both of these teams are very strong competitors and we would like to thank Collins Hill for hosting a well-run, fun meet, and both teams for their sportsmanship and competitive spirit. All of your Mountain View Swimmers and Divers had exemplary events, with many substantial reductions in competitive times or increase in dive point values. All our athletes contribute to the team effort and score. We had many new county and state qualifiers, meeting those “oh so desired” state and county times (making a county meet time or dive point is one qualifier for lettering). Below is a list of those new qualifiers from this meet. If you know or teach these students please give them a real or verbal pat on the back for their accomplishment. Also we would like to thank the large contingent of students who came out to cheer us on this meet, which really means a lot to the whole team.

State Qualifiers

Boys 200 Free Relay  Robby Compton, Jordan Rubin, Jake Payne, Daniel McCullough

County Qualifiers

Two more scheduled meets before county and state. This weekend we swim Shiloh and Meadow Creek on Friday at Collins Hill Aquatic Center, a meet we feel very good about a win for the Bears. The actual competition will start at 7:30, please come out and cheer on your Swim/Dive Bears.

Go Bears!!!                 Top ‘O the Food Chain, Baby!!!

12/17/11 - Your Mountain View Swim and Dive Bears had an excellent meet against two strong teams this past Saturday at West Park Pool. Unfortunately we did not persevere against the larger Grayson team who inched by us 389 to 367. Nor did we win against the strong team from Norcross who hosted the meet. However, we made significant gains against Norcross who thoroughly trounced us on 11-11, reducing their win from 478 to our 273 on 11-11, to 478 to 367 this showing. Nearly cutting the spread in half. I'm pretty happy with that. Wins are better, but gains are great. We would like to thank Coach Bilie Jatko and the Norcross Blue Devils for hosting a fun meet and both teams for being such outstanding and gracious competitors. We would also like to thank the Gwinnett Parks and Recreation Pool Staff and Gwinnett Fire and Rescue Station 19 for their timely and professional response to an on deck emergency.

All of our swimmers put forth strong efforts and contributed to the team score, many taking off significant times from previous personal best. We had some reach the oh so desired county and state qualifying times, which will allow them to compete in those two coveted events at season's end. Please join with me in congratulating the following new qualifiers:

Gabrielle Marquez           County Time in Girls 50 Free

Sandrine Lefebvre          State Time in Girls 500 Free

As we have more and more qualify, the list of new qualifiers of course shortens. Great job by all our athletes!

Go Bears! Top 'O the Food Chain, Baby!!!   Happy Holidays!

12/3/11
-Your Mountain View Swim and Dive Bears were hosts to our first home meet at Collins HillAquatic Center this past Saturday. We would like to thank the teams and coaches from Archer, Dacula, and Lanier for a great meet filled with the spirit of competition and athleticism. Thanks also to our wonderful Wendy Rhodes for being our on-site home team administrator. I am very pleased to say we not only beat our arch rival Archer soundly, but also Dacula, and Lanier, who is still in the early years of team building. Not as long a list of state and county qualifiers because I put this meet together with more of a team win in mind as opposed to allowing individual team members to pursue personal goals. However, they will have a great chance for that this coming weekend at the Clody (named after two pioneers in Gwinnett swimming and personal friends, Bill and Emily Clody. What a great way to remember and appreciate them!) which is designed for swimmers to pick their events. We don’t even score this meet. So please come support you favorite individual swim team member this weekend and cheer them onto those elusive county or state times. Diving is pretty much all day at Mountain Park Pool on Friday, and swimming is Saturday morning into early afternoon at West Park pool off of PIB.

11/19/11 - Your Mountain View Swim and Dive Bears had another great meet on 11-19. We did not beat the Gargantuan Mill Creek Hawks, led by the longest coaching swim coach in Gwinnett and my friend and mentor, Dr. Rick Creed, however we did take second by a good margin over the Central Black Knights who are led by Coach Michele Boerig, also a great coach. Thanks to both teams for a great meet, well run and executed by Mill Creek. All our swimmers had great events and contributed to the overall team score of 402, many, many shaved off major time, reaching for the still elusive goal of county and state times. Below is a list of team members who reached new county or state times at this meet. Please congratulate them on these accomplishments if you teach them or know them. The whole team works very hard. Last Thursday at practice they swam 3,200 yards in one hour, that’s 1.82 miles.

Again, a lot qualifying going on! Ten new state slots and 15 new county slots. Woooo hoooooo!

Our next meet is against arch rival Archer, and Lanier and Dacula, and we plan to beat all of them. Please come watch the meet and cheer on your Bears at Collins Hill Aquatic Center, Saturday 12-3, meet starts at 7:30 PM. We are the home team. Thanks for listening.

11/11/11 - Your Mountain View Swim and Dive Bears had a great first outing of the season. We would like to thank Coach Jim Reason and the Duluth Wildcats for hosting a well-run and executed meet, and both they and the Norcross Blue Devils for being gracious competitors exemplifying the athleticism we hold dear. We lost to both the larger and more experienced teams but had a great meet. Many of our athletes qualified for county or state during the first outing. If you know any of the following athletes please give them a pat on the back for their individual and team accomplishments. All our athletes performed well, most taking time off their personal best, moving them closer to that goal of county or state times. And all contribute to the overall team score and accomplishment.

A very long list indeed, one we can all be proud of. (don’t you always feel we should not call them “girls” and “boys” events?, they are young men and women of accomplishment!) Our next meet is this coming Saturday and West Park Pool off of PIB. We would love to see some fans come support the team. Meet starts at 7:30 am, and is against the massive Mill Creek team and Central. Thanks for your time.
